Coogee Takes Flight, 2020

“Coogee Takes Flight” was a community art project that was installed at Coogee Live. Leading up to the event Melanie worked with students from schools in the City of Cockburn. Children were taught to fold origami cranes and write their hopes and wishes on the wings of the cranes.

The thousands of origami cranes were installed in flight formation over a 2 day period of the event. The intention was to portray the message of the community coming together in the same direction, carrying the hopes and wishes of each other in a unified journey.
